Strong families and better outcomes for vulnerable children require more than good intentions. In this contribution on the Children, Youth and Families Amendment (Supporting Stable and Strong Families) Bill 2025, Rebecca Mayors, CEO of Hands of Mercy International, underscored the importance of practical, well-coordinated policy action.
Speaking in a parliamentary setting, she highlighted that supporting families must go beyond policy statements to include accessible services, early intervention, and sustained investment in community-based systems. Her remarks reflected a grounded understanding that families facing economic pressure, social challenges, or limited access to services require consistent and structured support—not short-term solutions.
Rebecca also pointed to the need for stronger alignment between government institutions, civil society, and frontline organizations. Drawing from Hands of Mercy International’s experience, she emphasized that policies are most effective when informed by real community needs and implemented through systems that are responsive and accountable.
Her contribution remained measured and focused, reinforcing a clear message: strengthening families is not a single intervention, but a continuous process that requires coordination, evidence-based planning, and long-term commitment.
In this context, the proposed amendments represent an opportunity to strengthen existing frameworks and ensure that vulnerable children are supported within stable, well-resourced family environments.
