What
South Sudan continues to recover from years of conflict that severely weakened social services, disrupted education systems, and displaced millions of families. Children and adolescents remain among the most affected—many having experienced violence, loss of family support, interrupted schooling, and, in some cases, forced recruitment into armed groups.
In response, Hands of Mercy International is implementing a comprehensive child protection program in Ezo, Nzara, and Yambio counties. The initiative focuses on the rehabilitation and reintegration of vulnerable children, including those formerly associated with armed forces and groups, supporting their safe return to family and community life.
The program provides psychosocial support, temporary transit care, and case management services tailored to the needs of each child. It also works closely with families and communities to rebuild protective environments, reduce stigma, and promote acceptance of reintegrated children.
Beyond direct support, Hands of Mercy International strengthens local systems by building the capacity of frontline workers, community leaders, and service providers to respond effectively to child protection concerns. The project also supports schools and community structures to monitor and respond to gender-based violence, ensuring safer spaces for children to learn and grow.
Through community engagement, awareness campaigns, and coordinated referral systems, the program reinforces long-term protection mechanisms while addressing the immediate needs of children affected by conflict.
This integrated approach ensures that children are not only supported in their recovery but are also empowered to rebuild their lives with dignity, stability, and hope.
