Br. James Lagitsa

Advocacy Associate

Br. James was born and raised in the mid-Hudson Valley of New York. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Siena College in 2011, followed by a Master’s in Public Policy from George Mason University in 2012. In 2021, he completed a Master of Divinity at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, deepening his theological formation alongside his commitment to social justice.

Br. James professed his final vows with the Order of Friars Minor in 2022 and currently serves at St. Francis Inn in Philadelphia, where he accompanies and serves individuals and families experiencing poverty. His work is grounded in direct community engagement, providing daily support while building relationships rooted in dignity and compassion.

Alongside his pastoral and service work, Br. James has developed a strong foundation in advocacy. Drawing on his background in public policy, he actively engages in efforts to address the structural drivers of poverty, including food insecurity, housing instability, and social exclusion. He has contributed to community-based advocacy initiatives, collaborating with local organizations, faith networks, and civic actors to amplify the voices of marginalized communities.

Br. James is particularly passionate about bridging grassroots realities with policy dialogue, ensuring that lived experiences inform decision-making processes. His combined experience in policy, theology, and frontline service positions him uniquely to advocate for more just, inclusive, and compassionate systems.
